Jaguar Wins Scottish Car of the Year Awards - S-Type Diesel US Bound?

COVENTRY, U.K., Nov. 11, 2004 -- The Jaguar X-TYPE Estate and S-TYPE Diesel have been honored with 2004 Scottish Car of the Year awards. Members of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) voted the X-TYPE Estate top in the Luxury Car category and the S-TYPE Diesel top in the Diesel category.

"It was a great honour to be back home and to pick up two awards," said Ian Callum, director of Design for Jaguar. "I am particularly proud of the X-TYPE Estate, as it is the first car I worked on when I joined Jaguar. I am also very proud of the award for the S-TYPE Diesel as it is generally a fantastic car to drive."

Jaguar has a successful role of honour at the Scottish Car of the Year awards, with the XJ winning the luxury car category in 2003 and the X-TYPE winning the overall prize in 2001, following the triumph of the S-TYPE in 1999.

Commenting on the X-TYPE Estate win, President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers Ally Ballingall said, "The maker of our Luxury Car of the Year is no stranger to these awards having previously been overall champion in saloon guise.

"A British built car with a choice of front or all-wheel drive, the ASMW members felt the arrival of an estate body option broadens this car's appeal in a marketplace traditionally dominated by the Germans."

On awarding the S-TYPE Diesel with Diesel Car of The Year Ballingall commented, "With the demand for diesel in Scotland showing no signs of slowing, our winner in this category could not have come at a more crucial time. My members considered the benefits of this ultra refined diesel, which is at the heart of a subtly-enhanced package and our Scottish Diesel Car of the Year, the Jaguar S-TYPE Twin Turbo V-6 Diesel was a clear winner."
