GM Engineer Named Rising Star Of Technology By Women Of Color Conference Magazine

BALTIMORE December 14, 2004; Tracy L. Mack-Askew, a designing engineer in General Motors North America Product Development, has been selected as one of the "Women of Color Rising Stars of Technology" for 2004 by the editors of Women of Color Conference magazine.

Mack-Askew was honored at ceremonies during the 9th Annual National Women of Color Technology Awards Conference on October 28 in Atlanta, GA. Honorees are minority women under age 30 who are outstanding performers and are helping to shape technology for the future. This is the second award for Mack-Askew, who in 2003 earned the recognition of National Modern Day Technology Leader as part of the Black Engineer of the Year awards.

Commenting on her engineering achievements, Mack-Askew said, "Through diligent effort and faith, there is no limit to what you can accomplish." Currently, Mack-Askew is a GM designing engineer-Exteriors, Materials and Fastening in the Bumpers, Fascia, Grille and Wheel Liners Group. She is responsible for the design and release of components for a 2006 GM sport utility vehicle.

Among other career accomplishments, Mack-Askew planned and executed the seat development rides in the Chevrolet SSR; demonstrated effective problem solving as a "Red X Journeyperson;" developed and maintained the Structures, Durability and Dynamic Applications group web site; and authored the Quasi-Static Durability of Mounted Components procedure.

Mack-Askew began her GM career in January 1999 as a college graduate in training. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and completed the Master of Science in Engineering program at Purdue University in December 2004.
