General Motors Announces Alliance With Women In Film

GM Launches New Effort To Support Women In The Entertainment Industry

UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIF. January 5, 2004; General Motors today announced a multi-year alliance with Women In Film, the world's leading non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the efforts of women in the entertainment industry.

The announcement was made at the Universal Studios Globe Theatre by Gary Cowger, president of GM North America; Iris Grossman, president of Women In Film, and Judith James, chairperson of the Women In Film/GM Committee. The event also highlighted women's efforts in the automotive and film industries.

"General Motors is excited about our relationship with Women In Film. Women influence and impact the success of the automotive industry, which - just like the film industry - is all about developing products and services that break through the cluttered competitive landscape and appeal to a diverse audience. We're proud to be associated with an organization such as Women In Film, which has creative and business goals that are similar to ours," said Cowger.

Cowger noted that GM is a long-time major contributor to both women's initiatives and to the arts and culture. GM and the GM Foundation support a variety of arts and cultural institutions that promote appreciation of the arts, recognition of diverse cultures and awareness of arts in education programs. In 2002, GM and the GM Foundation contributed more than $3.1 million to a diverse group of these organizations.

"Through this alliance, GM is broadening Women In Film's national reach and vastly strengthening its already vital programs," said Iris Grossman, Women In Film Los Angeles president.

"We share common goals in wanting to encourage, support and mentor creative people, specifically women in film and entertainment," said Judith James, Women In Film/GM Committee chairperson.

The alliance with GM will enable Women In Film to provide added support for programs such as a college lecture series; film festivals; the Film Finishing Fund; the Women's Film Preservation Fund; a public service announcement (PSA) program; mentorship and scholarship programs; Hispanic Young Filmmakers' grants; and the Women In Film International Summit.
