Solutia Automotive Reports Record Number of Concept and Production Vehicles with Its Interlayers at 2005 NAIAS

TROY, Mich., Jan. 20, 2005 -- According to Solutia Automotive, the use of laminated automotive glass is on the rise for both concept and production vehicles, and no place is that more evident than the 2005 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), which concludes Sunday, Jan. 23, in Detroit. The glass used in the side, rear, roof and advanced windshields on 40 vehicles on display at the show contain either Solutia's Saflex(R) brand interlayer or its Vanceva(TM) (pronounced van-SEE-va) brand advanced interlayer. With an increase of 10 vehicles over 2004, this is the largest collection of vehicles using Solutia's glass interlayers assembled at one auto show.

"Laminated glass is becoming mainstream, and this show provides validation of that movement," said Jay Pyper, North American automotive market development director for Solutia Automotive. "As automakers continue to refine vehicles in search of that competitive advantage, they look to solutions like laminated glass as adding value for their customers."

Additionally, concept and production vehicle designers are discovering the aesthetic benefits of Solutia's Vanceva(TM) brand advanced interlayers. Vanceva's color and metallic products allow designers to go beyond the sheet metal and extend their creative options to the window glass, creating a truly distinctive vehicle from roof to road. Solutia's Vanceva(TM) color and metallic products were featured on seven concept vehicles at the NAIAS.

Benefits provided by the use of a PVB interlayer include:

* Superior Interior Sound Control - Laminated Glass reduces noise entering the vehicle by up to six decibels in the most sensitive hearing range (1000 - 6000 Hz). Conversely, it also keeps the good sound in, enhancing the listening experience for passengers.

* Solar protection - Laminated Glass screens up to 95 percent of the sun's harmful UVA and UVB radiation that can cause vehicle interiors to deteriorate. The product has an ultraviolet protection factor of 50+ (SPF). With the addition of a metallic interlayer, Infrared Radiation is also significantly reduced, resulting in a cooler, more comfortable interior.

* Enhanced Vehicle Security - Laminated Glass takes up to ten times longer to penetrate than standard tempered glass, thereby deterring opportunistic thieves looking for an easy target.

Concept vehicles at the NAIAS using Vanceva(TM) Color are the:
  - Ford Mustang Glassback by Classic Design Concepts
  - Mercury Meta One
  - Volvo 3CC
  - Saturn Aura
  - Saturn Sky
