Detroit Car Company Sponsors Mayday in Los Angeles and San Francisco

Detroit, MI February 18, 2005; GM has signed on to be the title sponsor of the west coast concert tour of the Taiwanese pop group Mayday, continuing in the automaker's rich tradition of celebrating the freedom and creativity of multicultural America through music events and programs. Special engagements in San Francisco and Los Angeles will feature prominent displays of Chevy's newest vehicle, the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, the first time ever in the Asian Community.

Chevy's involvement with the band Mayday represents the latest in a long line of ties to musical festivals and events whose fan base features ethnic groups that Chevy targets as potential customers. Recently sponsored events have included El Premio de la Gente, the 2004 Latin Music Fan Awards, the 2004 American Contemporary Music Awards, etc.

The Mayday tour sponsorship is a part of Chevy's overall marketing strategy to reach out to the Asian American market, a segment with historically low awareness of the Chevy brand. By partnering with the hip musical group Mayday - the five-man band extremely popular among youth in China, Taiwan, and Singapore - Chevy will appeal to young Asian Americans and immigrants, a targeted customer group for the Chevy Cobalt. The band also embodies the bold, youthful image projected by Chevy's more general "New Era Revolution" campaign. Keys to this sponsorship have included TV, print, and poster/flyer adverting, which have been broadcast and displayed in major Chinese media outlets in the Los Angeles and San Francisco metropolitan areas. In addition to the media promotion, Chevy also provides two courtesy vehicles - Chevy Express vans to the band members for their local transportation needs. The concert venues will also feature a Chevy booth, where interested participants will be able to fill out product survey and exchange for premiums.

Maria Rohrer, Chevy Diversity & Truck Advertising Manager said, "We are excited to partner with Mayday. Their excitement and energy is a perfect match for Chevrolet, where we are in the midst of the most significant launch of innovative new cars and trucks in our history." The Mayday concerts will be held on February 19th at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles and February 20th at the San Jose State Event Arena.
