American Honda Reports February 2005 Sales Results

American Honda Posts Best-Ever February Light Truck Sales; Acura Sets New February Sales Record

TORRANCE, Calif., March 1 -- American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted sales of 98,130 Honda and Acura vehicles in February, including record February sales of light truck models and best-ever February results for the Acura Division. American Honda light truck sales rose 7.5 percent to 43,922 units including 133 early sales of the all-new Honda Ridgeline truck, making its official debut in Honda dealer showrooms around the country today. American Honda year-to-date sales totaled 179,634 units, down 4.5 percent on a daily selling rate basis.

"With the launch of the all-new Ridgeline, we are further expanding and diversifying Honda's product base," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. "Continued growth in our light truck business along with the introduction of a new Civic this fall should help us to meet our targets for the full year, despite a very tough and competitive market."

Honda Division posted February sales of 81,979 cars and light trucks, down 9.5 percent from last year's all-time best February. Boosted by record February sales of the Pilot and Odyssey, Honda light truck sales rose to a new February record of 39,224 units, a 9.2 percent jump over the previous year's results.

Pilot sales rose 12.1 percent to 10,625 units, while Odyssey sales jumped 29.4 percent to 13,325. Total Honda sales for the calendar year of 149,819 were off 6.9 percent when compared to last year's all-time record results. Year-to-date Honda light truck sales rose 8.3 percent to 70,788 minivans, SUVs and pickup trucks.

Acura Division posted a new February record with sales rising 6.6 percent to 16,151 cars and light trucks, including best-ever February sales of the TSX sports sedan, up 34.7 percent to 2,638, and a 189.3 percent jump in sales of the new RL. Acura year-to-date sales of 29,815 rose 9.8 percent versus a year ago.
