AAA Fighting High Gas Prices with Credit Card Rebate

ORLANDO, Fla.--May 2, 20055, 2005--With summer vacations fast approaching, AAA is helping to counteract the effect of high gas prices on family budgets by offering a rebate of up to 5 percent on gasoline purchases made at the pump with the AAA Visa(R) credit card.

"Skyrocketing gas prices are squeezing many household budgets. We feel this is one way we can help people save on a product that most consumers can't do without," said Scott Denman, managing director, AAA Financial Services.

AAA credit cardholders can earn a rebate of up to 5 percent on gas purchases. The more cardholders use their card for everyday, non-gas purchases the greater the rebate will be for gas purchases. Rebates appear automatically on the cardholder's monthly statement, so there are no forms to complete.

Nationwide, gas prices are averaging $2.12 per gallon for regular unleaded, up 40 cents since AAA started the gas rebate program two years ago. At the current price a 5 percent rebate would save members 10.6 cents on every gallon of gasoline purchased.

"Over the past two years this program has put $74 million back in the pockets of consumers," said Denman, "and that's the most important thing."
