AJAX, ON, May 31, 2005; The all-new 2006 Volkswagen Jetta is now available in Canada with the miserly, super efficient 1.9L TDI engine. It costs $26,650 with manual transmission and $28,050 with automatic.

Diesel powered vehicles have been a particularly important component in Volkswagen Canada's history over the last thirty years and thanks to recent diesel, direct injection technology, the engines are quieter and more efficient than ever. The 1.9L engine develops 100hp at 4,000rpm and 177 lb ft of torque at 1,800rpm. The fuel rating for this model is 6.6 L/100km (43 mpg) city, and 5.2 L/100km (54mpg) highway with the manual transmission, and 6.8 L/100km (42 mpg) city, and 5.1 L/100km (55mpg) highway with the automatic transmission.

The new Jetta has an even stronger body than its predecessor recording double digit improvements in its dynamic and torsional rigidity. This is achieved through the use of more high strength body panels, world class design, engineering and advanced laser welding systems that use a new generation of robotics and elaborate laser driven measuring check points. The net benefits are class leading fit and finish, improved body strength, crash protection, driving dynamics and reduced interior noise.

Standard equipment includes climate control, AM/FM radio with CD player, power steering, cruise control, heated front seats and washer nozzles, outside temperature display and tilt/telescoping steering wheel. There are three additional equipment package levels and options include ESP, side curtain protection and rear side airbags.
