Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. a Sponsor: Metro Detroit Youth Day Will Hold a Scholarship Reception June 7

DETROIT, June 1 -- Metro Detroit Youth Day will hold a Scholarship Reception, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, at the Roostertail in Detroit.

"We hope to raise more than $50,000 to provide scholarships for Metro Detroit youth," said Ed Deeb, Youth Day co-founder and coordinator. "We want to encourage youth to pursue academics and a college education. We help reduce the financial burdens for children who can't afford to go to school."

The scholarships are awarded at the annual Metro Detroit Youth Day, July 13 on Belle Isle. More than 310 scholarships have been awarded since MDYD began 23 years ago.

Michigan Youth Appreciation Foundation is the funding source for Metro Detroit Youth Foundation.

The reception is sponsored by Toyota, SBC, Pepsi-Cola Company, DTE Energy, Cingular Wireless, Sam's Club and Michigan Food and Beverage Association, along with several other corporations and small businesses who support Metro Detroit Youth Day.

This year's chairpersons are John McCandless of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Donna Burke, vice president of SBC, Karyn Kokeny of Pepsi-Cola Co., and Fouad Ashkar of DTE Energy.

There will be a brief program and a silent sports and entertainment auction. Tickets are $125 each and can be purchased by calling the MFBA office (586) 393-8800, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
