Unique Performance to Unveil Custom Chevy HHR Street Machine for National Build-Off Competition

DALLAS--June 22, 2005--Unique Performance will unveil their custom version of the new Chevrolet HHR crossover vehicle at the GM Design Center in Irvine, Calif., on June 22, 2005. The renowned hot rod shop turned the HHR from a front wheel drive, four cylinder sport wagon into a rear wheel drive, V8-powered monster at the request of General Motors for a national competition. Unique Performance manufactures custom vehicles including the line of Shelby continuation Mustangs.

The custom HHR, designed by Joe Iacono, was created for the competition between four of the finest custom shops from across America. Each of the builders was given eight weeks to create their ultimate version of the new HHR, which itself is a retro design based on the Chevrolet SSR sport truck and vintage Suburbans. HHR originally was a code word that stood for "Heritage High Roof." The stock wagon will be available in late summer of 2005 as a 2006 year model.

"Our goal was to turn this new sport wagon into a ferocious street machine," said President of Unique Performance Douglas Hasty. "While it's easy to simply concentrate on cosmetics, we attacked every facet of the vehicle in our quest to create an incredible hot rod. The team focused on performance aspects as much as styling to inject some serious attitude into our HHR."

The Unique Performance HHR features an all-aluminum 6.0L Gen IV LS2 V8 engine with a polished Magna supercharger that puts out a mind-blowing 525 horsepower. The front and rear coilover suspensions balance all of that power as it travels to the rear wheels. Unique's HHR rides on a set of one-off P245/40ZR18 Weld Racing wheels shod by G Force BF Goodrich tires.

The exterior features a custom paint job featuring paint from Hot Hues by Dupont, while the interior features a 12 speaker Kenwood Dolby digital AM/FM/CD/DVD/navigation system by Grand Prairie Audio. Bill's Custom Upholstery finished the seats and carpeting.

GM plans to use the vehicles from the competition for promotional purposes. The four custom HHRs will appear at events nationwide and the build-off will also be featured in an episode of The Learning Channel's hit television show "Rides."

Unique Performance first began turning heads with their involvement in the Shelby G.T.500E and G.T.350SR continuation program. Each vehicle the company builds received the latest in speed technology and after market parts from companies such as Baer brakes, "Hot Hues" Dupont paint, Quaker State lubricants, Griffin radiator, Old Air Products air conditioning and other top components.

Unique's HHR show car was designed by Joe Iacono of IDG, a fresh, determined newcomer that is taking the industry by storm. Joe has worked with companies such as GM, Dupont, Weld Racing, Toyota and Dominator Street Rods. The talented young designer's distinctive style is revolutionizing contemporary design and the way solutions are defined in the automotive industry.

"We had a build team of seven hard working professionals on this project," commented Vice President of Operations Bobby Mikus. "They turned the HHR from a sturdy workhorse into a powerful performance machine. We're proud of the work that each and every one of them did. This HHR is going to blow people away when they see it."
