Nissan Publishes 2005 Sustainability Report

Tokyo, Japan, June 21, 2005 - (JCN Newswire) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. , issued its second annual Sustainability Report at its Annual General Shareholders Meeting, held today in Yokohama, Japan. The report provides details of Nissan activities around the world and how they relate to areas of stakeholder interest such as the environment, safety and sustainable development.

Nissan defines sustainability as, "conducting its business in a way that balances the three aspects of economic activity, environmental consideration and social responsibility in order to increase value for all stakeholders." This concept is consistent with Nissan's objective of "creating value for all our stakeholders" established in its new business plan, NISSAN Value-Up, which began in April 2005.

"This report addresses the contributions we are making to sustainable development and the effects of our actions, both inside and outside our company," said Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. "It is an important part of building relationships with our key stakeholders based on trust and transparency."

Following last year's edition, this second Report describes the policies and activities that have been undertaken from the perspective of Corporate Social Responsibility in diverse areas including corporate governance, enhancing value for stakeholders, protecting the environment and improving safety. The Report also gives space for our employees to give their own unique perspectives on the meaning of sustainability and how it influences our day-to-day business decisions.

In order to set a clear direction for the future, to further strengthen our activities and to promote both internal and external communication on sustainability, we assigned a corporate officer to the task in April 2005 and established a Sustainability Office inside the Communication Division.
