American Honda Posts Record July Sales

All-Time Record Light Truck Sales Highlight Second Best Month in American Honda Sales History

TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 2, 2005; Record July sales of Honda and Acura products along with all-time record sales of light truck models boosted total American Honda vehicle sales to a new July record of 143,217 vehicles, an increase of 14.5 percent over last year's results and the second best sales result in the company's history. American Honda year-to-date sales continue on a record-setting pace of 835,581 cars and light trucks, an increase of 3.6 percent over last year, on a daily selling rate basis.


    July sales highlights include:
     * All-time record American Honda truck sales of 63,558 units, up
       30.2 percent
     * All-time record Honda truck sales of 58,059 units, up 31.3 percent
     * All-time record sales of Honda CR-V and Odyssey
     * All-time record Acura TSX sales
     * Record July sales of Honda Pilot and S2000
     * Record July sales of Acura TL, MDX and RL
The Honda Division posted all-time record July results and its third best month ever with sales of 123,308 cars and light trucks, an increase of 13.5 percent over year-ago results. Honda Division year-to-date sales totaled 710,727 units, up 2.4 percent over last years record-setting pace. All-time record Honda Division light truck sales of 58,059 rose 31.3 percent in July, the sixth consecutive month of record light truck results in 2005. Truck sales highlights include best ever sales of CR-V, up 23.8 percent to 16,699 units, and best ever sales of Odyssey, up 18.1 percent to 17,216. The Pilot SUV recorded its 14th consecutive month of record sales, up 41.0 percent to 14,726 units, the second best month since its introduction in May 2002.

Consumers also purchased a record number of Honda hybrid vehicles in July. July sales of hybrids jumped 96.2 percent to 3,773 as Civic Hybrid posted its best July and fourth best month ever with sales of 2,329 units, up 23.2 percent for the month. Year-to-date sales of Honda hybrid vehicles rose 50.9 percent to 24,639 Civic, Accord and Insight hybrids.

Acura Division July sales increased by 21.2 percent to 19,909 units, its second best month ever and the Division's 21st consecutive month of record sales. Acura Division year-to-date totals of 124,854 units are 11.0 percent ahead of 2004. The TSX posted a new all-time record month with sales of 3,659 units. The RL also posted its best July and fourth best month ever, selling 1,741 units. Record July sales of the TL are up 13.9 percent to 6,888 units. The MDX also set a new July record with 5,499 units, an increase of 19.8 percent over the previous record.
