Two-day 'Careers and Gears' Program for Girl Scouts, Dec. 2 - 3, 2005

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 7 -- The Walter P. Chrysler Museum is partnering with Olde World Canterbury Village and the Holiday Inn Select to offer a "Careers and Gears" program for Girl Scouts, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2, 2005 - 3, 2005.

Open to Girl Scouts in grades nine - twelve, "Careers and Gears" explores careers in the hotel and resort management and automotive industries, fulfilling requirements for two Interpersonal Achievement (IPA) badges. Sponsored by the Fair Winds Council, the program is open to all high school Girl Scout troops in Southeast Michigan.

"Careers and Gears" begins Friday evening at Olde World Canterbury Village in Lake Orion where scouts learn the history of the village and the Victorian era and practice proper dining etiquette while enjoying tea and finger sandwiches. Shopping and a fireworks display top off the evening at the village.

The experience continues with an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn Select in Auburn Hills. Scouts will arise Saturday morning for breakfast and a behind-the-scenes tour of the hotel, including preparing lunch in the commercial kitchen with the hotel's chef.

"Careers and Gears" then shifts to the Walter P. Chrysler Museum where scouts will learn about careers in the auto industry. Scouts will also explore the American history of the corporation Walter P. Chrysler founded, as well as the automobile's impact on American society and culture.

Cost for the "Careers and Gears" program is $55 for scouts and $52 for adult chaperones, based on quad occupancy at the Holiday Inn Select. Saturday night accommodations are also available for an additional charge.

Registration is accepted by mail -- to the attention of Sally Berry -- at Girl Scout Council, 2300 Austin Parkway, Flint, MI 48507. Registration deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 23. Provide troop number, troop advisor's name, telephone number, mailing address, e-mail address and names of all scouts and adult chaperones.
