North American International Auto Show Charity Preview Gala Raises More Than $6 Million for Children's Charities

Extravagant Night Welcomes VIPs, Celebrity Guests

DETROIT, Jan. 15 -- After an exciting week for the press and industry professionals, the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) celebrated the annual black-tie Charity Preview gala on January 13 by raising $6.8 million for 11 local children's charities. The champagne flowed and beautiful gowns swayed as exhibitors entertained VIP attendees with music and celebrity guests.

"The North American International Auto Show Charity Preview is a wonderful annual event of which we take great pride," said Richard Genthe, senior co-chairman for the NAIAS 2006. "This is the sixth consecutive year we've raised over $6 million and the money raised from our supporting attendees will fund numerous programs and services that will help metro Detroit's kids attain a better future."

Celebrity guests including Aretha Franklin and Steve Harvey strolled the floors while Grammy winner, Ashanti performed for an eager crowd.

Since its inception in 1976, the event has raised nearly $65 million for charity. The Charity Preview is one of the world's largest single-night fundraising events. This money helps buy goods, clothing, health and support services for numerous local kids.

NAIAS 2006 Official Dates

Press Preview Days were held Sunday, Jan. 8, through Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006. Industry Preview Days were held on Wednesday, Jan. 11 and Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006. The Charity Preview was held Friday evening, Jan. 13, 2006. Public Days are Saturday, Jan. 14, through Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006.
