Toyota Ranks 2nd in 2005 Global Sales
TOKYO January 27, 2006; Japan Today reported that the Toyota Motor Corp group increased its combined global vehicle sales in 2005 by 8% from the previous year to a record 8.11 million units, the automaker said Thursday, making it the world's second-largest automaker after General Motors Corp for the third straight year.
Global vehicle production by Toyota and its two affiliates — Daihatsu Motor Co and Hino Motors Ltd — grew 9.1% to a record 8.23 million units in 2005, the company said. Global output by Nissan Motor Co and Honda Motor Co also fetched an all-time high of 3.50 million units and 3.41 million units, respectively, up 9.4% and 7.2%, the two companies said.
