Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers Hypes Existing Alternate Fuel Autos

A New Initiative By The Auto Industry Says There Are Many To Choose From

NEW YORK, May 11, 2006: As instability in the Middle East continues and gas prices go up daily, more and more consumers are looking for alternatives at the pump. The automotive industry says they have part of the answer.

The trade group representing the world's leading automakers, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, is launching an initiative to inform the public about alternative fuel autos currently on the road and available on dealer lots.

Fred Webber, Alliance President and CEO states, "Eight million Americans drive alternative fuel autos, and the automotive industry continues to innovate and produce more hybrid, clean diesel and ethanol fueled autos that offer an alternative to gasoline. Automakers are committed to being part of the solution." He then added, "Alliance members continue to produce new technologies to reduce gasoline without comprising consumer utility, safety, performance and comfort."

Currently, there are forty alternative fuel vehicles on the market and thirty-six more models are in development. Also, more than 100 models get more than 30-miles per gallon For more visit www.discoveralternatives.org.
