Chicago College Students Embark on National Road Trip for Charity Challenge
Chicago Residents Invited to Attend Kick-off Event What: What do a Russian speaking sorority girl, a jazz studies major and an aspiring broadcast journalist all have in common? They're all Northwestern University (NU) students who will be representing Chicago and competing against student teams from Boston College and Texas Christian University in the Dodge High Caliber Challenge. On Monday, June 5, Chicago residents are invited to send off the three students from NU as they kick-off their five-day charity road trip challenge in the all-new 2007 Dodge Caliber from their collegiate town of Chicago. Dodge will give away 500 free music downloads from Global Music Project to raise $10,000 for Doctors Without Borders. The event will entail: -- Music Downloads - Beginning in Chicago, the NU team will visit an additional three cities on their way to Miami where they will give away 500 free music downloads from http://www.globalmusicproject.org/ at each local event -- A Donation - For each song downloaded in Chicago, Dodge will donate $1 to Doctors Without Borders on the team's behalf -- School Spirit - Everyone who attends can show their support for the Chicago team by decorating their Dodge Caliber with good luck notes and well wishes Who: The students -- Richard Winkelmann, a 20-year-old pre-med and jazz studies major, is looking forward to the trip as his last bit of fun before taking a course on Organic Chemistry this summer -- Yuna Rapoport, 20, who is fluent in Russian, will graduate in June with degrees in pre-med and economics, and dreams of working for Doctors Without Borders after completing medical school -- Jackie Coburn, 21, will graduate from the Medill School of Journalism in 2007 and plans to pursue her ideal job as a broadcast news reporter upon returning from the road trip Guests -- Two NU student drummers will perform music from Ghana When: Monday, June 5, 2006 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. Where: Northwestern University, Museum of Law 370 E. Superior, 1/2 block west of Lake Shore Why: The Dodge High Caliber Challenge combines Generation Y's passion for volunteering with their love of music, technology and philanthropy in a five-day charity road trip designed to generate awareness for Global Music Project and raise funds for Doctors Without Borders. Students will drive the new Dodge Caliber, which is chock full of interior road trip-friendly features like the MusicGate Power(TM) liftgate speakers, Chill Zone cooled beverage storage bin and unique flip pocket for storing a cell phone or an MP3 player. In addition, the student teams can put their skills to the test in the real world on an all-expense paid road trip with the chance to win a 24-month lease on a Dodge Caliber.
