Greater NY Auto Dealers Announce New Chairman

Chevrolet Auto Dealer Becomes Third Female Chairman in Association History

New York, NY - (August, 2006): For the third time in the organization's 96-year history, the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (GNYADA)-one of the largest and most influential automobile dealer groups in the nation-appointed a woman as chairman. Sheila Meyer, the dealer principal of Meyer Chevrolet (Middle Village, Queens, NY) was sworn in this week at a formal ceremony held at GNYADA's Center for Automotive Education & Training in Whitestone, Queens.

"The 650 franchised automobile dealers in the metropolitan New York area that make up this Association's membership sell over 700,000 new cars and trucks every year and generate more than $1.3 billion in city and state taxes," said Schienberg. "Sheila's knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the auto industry and her strong commitment to this Association will be a huge asset.

In her new role, Meyer will oversee GNYADA's wide range of initiatives and services that include lobbying on behalf of franchised new car dealers, numerous education and training programs, consumer awareness projects, government and community advocacy work, special events such as the New York International Automobile Show, and long-range plans for the Association.

Meyer took over Meyer Chevrolet eight years ago and is one of only a handful of women to run a franchised new car dealership in the State.

Meyer and her team recently completed a $1 million remodeling of her dealership which has served the community for almost 90 years and prides itself on being the oldest Chevy dealership in New York.

"Today, I have been asked to represent an organization that represents 650 franchised automobile dealers and which generates $1.3 billion in sales taxes for New York. It is a great challenge and an enormous honor," said Meyer.

Meyer is an active member of the Association and has been on the Board of Directors since 2000. For the past five years she has headed-up the Association's Employee Relations Committee that oversees extremely complex employment law issues.

The Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association also organizes the New York International Automobile Show-the largest auto show in North America-each spring in Manhattan's Jacob Javits Convention Center and is also the owner of the Center for Automotive Education & Training (www.autoedcenter.com <http://www.autoedcenter.com/> ) in Whitestone, Queens.
