Checker Cab Works to Lower Crime in Metro Detroit

DETROIT, Sept. 14 -- Checker Cab Company is teaming with Crime Stoppers of Michigan to promote awareness of Crime Stoppers' anonymous tip hotline, 1-800-SPEAK UP, by affixing bumper stickers to more than 200 Checker Cabs vehicles. By utilizing their fleet of cabs, Checker Cab is providing hundreds of mobile billboards throughout the Detroit region.

The 800-phone number is one of the many tools Crime Stoppers utilize to help lower crime and make the Detroit region a safer place. Citizens can report criminal activity anonymously, and, if there is an arrest, tipsters receive a cash reward.

"For Checker Cab, getting involved with Crime Stoppers was an easy decision. By promoting the hotline, we hope this will encourage people to help make their neighborhoods a better place to live," said Tim McCarthy, President of Checker Cab Company. "Our cabs are seen by thousands of people throughout each day and having 1-800-SPEAK UP on our cabs will help increase the number of tips made each year."

"Crime Stoppers of Michigan salutes Checker Cab for taking the initiative to help empower citizens to participate in reducing crime in their community," explained John Broad, President of Crime Stoppers.

Checker Cab is an affiliate of Soave Enterprises, a privately held management and investment company founded by Detroit businessman Anthony L. Soave.

Dedicated to providing Detroit with quality transportation, Checker Cab, with 500 cabs, is the largest and oldest taxi service in Metro Detroit. Checker Cab is located at 2128 Trumbull Blvd. in Detroit and can be reached at (313) 963-7000.
