Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum Achieves Re-accreditation from the American
Association of Museums

AUBURN - The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum has again achieved the highest
recognition for a museum, accreditation by the American Association of
Museums (AAM). Initially accredited in 1997, the museum must undergo
re-accreditation at least every ten years to maintain accredited status.

AAM Accreditation is a seal of approval from the museum field that
recognizes a museum for its commitment to excellence, accountability, high
professional standards, and continued institutional improvement. It also
signifies that a museum fulfills its obligations to the public as set forth
in its mission.

Developed and sustained by museum professionals for 35 years, AAM's museum
accreditation program is the field's primary vehicle for quality assurance,
self-regulation, and public accountability. It strengthens individual
museums and the entire field by promoting ethical and professional
practices. Of the nation's nearly 17,500 museums about 775 (4.4%) are
currently accredited. The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum is one of only 20
museums accredited in Indiana.

Accreditation is a rigorous but highly rewarding process that examines all
aspects of a museum's operations. Re-accreditation is equally thorough and
also requires the museum to show it has kept pace with the evolving
standards of the museum field. Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum executive
director Laura Brinkman agrees that re-accreditation is a thorough process
but also very important and rewarding, "The standards for re-accreditation
have become increasingly stringent over the past several years. I am very
proud of the high level of professionalism and expertise exhibited by museum
staff, trustees and volunteers in achieving re-accreditation. Accreditation
status is important to us in that it assures donors that the museum is
accountable and transparent in its operation. It assures lenders and donors
alike that museum artifacts receive care equal to or exceeding the highest
museum standards", said Brinkman. As part of the re-accreditation process,
the museum underwent a comprehensive self-assessment process followed by a
site review by peer museum professionals.

As the national service organization representing the American museum
community, the American Association of Museums' mission is to enhance the
value of museums to their communities through leadership, advocacy and
service. For more about AAM and the Accreditation Program please visit

interest cars in eight galleries. The museum, accredited by the American
Association of Museums since 1997, is a National Historic Landmark. The
