In this week's second round of financial statements, DaimlerChrysler is reporting today that worldwide sales of the Mercedes Car Group, composed of the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and smart brands, fell 1.5% for the month of September to 116,100 units, bringing their year-to- date sales to 934,200 - an increase of 5.8% over 2005's nine-month YTD total.

Individually, sales of the Mercedes-Benz brand remained strong, with the unit noting sales of 106,600 units - the same figure achieved in September of 2005. To date, Mercedes-Benz has sold 846,300 units, an increase over 2005's YTD sales of 9.4%.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Mercedes Car Group posts record sales of 934,200 vehicles for the
first three quarters of 2006

Mercedes-Benz sales at record level in September
Mercedes-Benz gains market shares in all regions through September
Sales increases by E- and S-Class strengthen position as worldwide
market leader in upper-range and luxury segments

Stuttgart, Oct 06, 2006
The Mercedes Car Group sold 116,100 passenger cars worldwide in
September 2006, compared with 117,800 in the same month last year.
During the first three quarters of 2006, deliveries of Mercedes-Benz,
Maybach, and smart brand cars rose by six percent to the record
figure of 934,200 units (Q1-Q3 2005: 883,000).

After very strong sales in September 2005 as a result of the
successful launches of the B-, M-, R- and S-Class, Mercedes-Benz
managed to keep sales at the same record level in September 2006. The
worldwide deliveries of 106,600 units matched the total posted in
September 2005. During the first three quarters, sales at Mercedes-
Benz rose by nine percent to the record of 846,300 passenger cars (Q1-
Q3 2005: 773,800).

Mercedes-Benz gained market shares in all regions in the first nine
months of the year. Deliveries in the United States rose by 13
percent through September to the record figure of 176,600 passenger
cars.

A new sales record was set in the Asia/Pacific region as well, with
sales there increasing 19 percent to 95,900 units through September.
In Western Europe, Mercedes-Benz also outperformed the market as a
whole during the first three quarters, with deliveries up by six
percent to 507,000 units.

The response to the new generation E Class has been very positive,
with demand for the vehicle climbing by two percent in September to
21,000 units worldwide. Since July, the E-Class has once again been
the international market leader for upper-range automobiles. In
Germany, the E-Class is also growing strongly and leads the upper-
range segment in September.

The S-Class meanwhile continues to expand its leading world-market
position in the luxury segment. About 70,000 S-Class sedans were
delivered to customers in the first three quarters of 2006, an all
time high in the company’s history. The S-Class is also the number
one vehicle in its segment for diesel powered cars.

Global deliveries of Mercedes-Benz SUVs more than doubled to 118,100
units during the first nine months of 2006, due to the expanded range
of models offered and rapid growth in sales of the new M-Class. In
Germany and Western Europe, Mercedes-Benz is the best-selling premium
brand in the SUV segment.

In September, the smart brand delivered 9,500 vehicles to customers
worldwide. For the period from January to September, sales totaled
87,900 units. In view of the upcoming model changeover of the smart
fortwo and the phasing out of the smart forfour, the result was in
line with the sales target.
