Avis Completes Nationwide Roll-out of Where2 GPS With Real-Time Traffic Alerts

PARSIPPANY, N.J., Nov. 17 -- The American Automobile Association predicts that 63 million Americans will be traveling 50 miles or more this holiday season. That means that car travelers have a good chance of encountering some kind of traffic or road congestion while in route. To help ensure travelers get to the festivities on time, Avis Rent A Car System, LLC, today announced that Avis Where2, the only GPS navigation system with real- time traffic alerts, is now available nationwide. The roll-out includes over 130 major markets including: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Dallas, Boston, Washington D.C., Atlanta and Houston.

"For many people a road trip to visit family is a part of the traditional holiday celebration," said Becky Alseth, senior vice president of marketing for Avis Budget Group, Inc., parent company of Avis. "Unfortunately, nothing will take the joy out of the trip faster than getting tied up in traffic. This is why we know that travelers will really benefit from having Avis Where2 along on their next trip. This system will give them the ability to receive real-time alerts of upcoming traffic and the information on a new route to avoid it."

The Avis Where2 GPS navigation notifies drivers of upcoming traffic snarls, construction tie-ups, and automatically suggests alternative routes. In addition, where available, information on weather delays is also provided. Traffic information is provided by Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network for nearly 50 cities. Based on Garmin's popular new StreetPilot c550, Where2 also offers features such as Bluetooth hands-free calling, MP3 playback capability, multiple languages with spoken directions, 3-dimensional maps, and more.

"The Avis Where2 system represents the finest in navigation technology available in any rental fleet," said Dan Bartel, Garmin's worldwide vice president of sales. "Getting from point A to point B is just a few taps away -- and real-time traffic ensures that travelers have fewer hassles and a more enjoyable trip."

Avis Where2 is fully portable and can be rented with any Avis vehicle for an additional $9.95 per day or $49.95 per week.
