Subaru Northwest Region Posts Record 2006 Sales

-- December sales up 13%; 2006 total sales up 9%; Carr Subaru in Beaverton, Oregon is number one Subaru dealer in U.S. Sales volume --

PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 10 -- Subaru of America, Inc. exceeded the 200,000-unit milestone for 2006 sales and achieved its fourth consecutive sales record, selling a total of 200,703 units for the year. Subaru Northwest Region, headquartered in Portland, Ore., was a major contributor to this success by setting its own December and year-end records.

The Subaru Northwest Region sold 3,259 units for the month of December 2006, up 13 percent from the same period last year. Total sales in 2006 for the region were 31,007 units, a gain of 9 percent over the previous year's total.

"2006 was a record year for Subaru," said Jim Pernas, regional vice president, Subaru Northwest Region, Subaru of America, Inc. "I'd like to thank our dealers in the Pacific Northwest for their outstanding efforts this year in bringing more and more customers to the best-selling All-Wheel Drive brand in America."

Regional Sales Highlights

Subaru Northwest Region sales were led by the Subaru Impreza, up 29 percent from the previous year. Also posting gains were the Legacy, Outback, and B9 Tribeca models. Carr Subaru in Beaverton, Ore. was the number one Subaru dealer in the country for sales volume in 2006 selling 1,334 units for the year. This total includes 500 Subaru Outback units, the most sold by any U.S. dealer in 2006.

The Subaru Northwest Region dealers include eight of the top 22 dealers in the country. They are listed below by their 2006 U.S. sales volume rank:

          1 - Carr Subaru in Beaverton, Ore.
          4 - Carter Subaru in Seattle, Wash.
          9 - Wentworth Subaru in Portland, Ore.
          10 - Lithia Reno Subaru in Reno, Nev.
          11 - Stevens Creek Subaru in San Jose, Calif.
          14 - Chaplin's Subaru in Bellevue, Wash.
          20 - Continental Subaru in Anchorage, Alaska
          22 - Carlsen Subaru in Redwood City, Calif.

The Subaru B9 Tribeca attracted new customers to the brand with sales for 2006 totaling 18,614 units, up 26 percent from the previous year. Subaru Legacy recorded sales of 84,442 units, of which the Subaru Outback posted 59,262 units for 2006. Subaru Forester posted sales of 51,258 units for the year, while Subaru Baja recorded 5,241 units. The greatest increase of any car line came from the Impreza that posted another all-time sales record for the brand with a gain of 22 percent totaling 41,148 units for the year. This model line total surpassed the record set just after the launch of the WRX in 2001.
