WASHINGTON--

AAA:

WHAT:

In a first-of-its-kind study, the AAA Foundation will

release a new analysis of graduated driver licensing

(GDL) laws, and reviews traffic fatality and injury

statistics before and after implementation of GDL

provisions in states across the nation.

The study confirms that GDL programs have been reducing

crashes and saving lives, and reveals that the more

comprehensive programs have been having substantially

greater impacts.

AAA will also discuss nationwide lobbying efforts to

strengthen GDL components to fix deadly gaps in state

licensing programs.

WHY:

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death

for teenagers. This research shows that GDL can greatly

reduce the number of teen injuries and fatalities on

our nations roadways.

WHO:

Peter Kissinger, AAA Foundation President and CEO

Robert Darbelnet, AAA President and CEO

Susan Baker, Researcher, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School
