Two UPS Freight Drivers Punch Return Tickets to Nationals

SMITHFIELD, N.C.--Two UPS Freight drivers have earned return trips to the National Truck Driving Championships after coming home first in their respective divisions at the North Carolina State Championships held here this weekend.

Greensboro Drivers Ty Bentley took top honors in the flatbed division and Brian Walker first place in the five-axle.

For Bentley, a road driver and a 17-year veteran of the company, the first-place finish is his fourth in the past seven years.

Walker, a city driver with 21 years with the company, also took his fourth state title and first since 2004.

With their victories, the drivers qualify for the National Truck Driving Championships to be held in August in Minneapolis.

Other strong performances turned in by UPS Freight drivers in the state tournament include the second-place finish in the twins class by Greensboros George Somers; Greensboros Jimmy Helbert, who finished third in the tanker; and Wilmingtons Frank Watson, whose third-place score in the sleeper division also garnered him Rookie of the Year honors.
