AAA Chicago: June Fuel Prices Remain Over $3

AURORA, Ill., June 13 -- While some downstate Illinois counties and northern Indiana have seen a price decrease, statewide averages for the price of gasoline in Illinois and northern Indiana remain over $3. AAA Chicago's most recent Fuel Gauge Report estimates that in Illinois, regular unleaded gasoline has decreased 2 cents during the past month, forecasting an average cost of $3.30 per gallon for the month of June, which is 36 cents higher per gallon from last year.

"Refineries are closer to operating at full capacity, which should bring some relief at the pump," says Nicole Niemi, AAA Chicago's spokesperson. "Demand remains high and summer travel season is in full swing."

In northern Indiana, gas prices average $3.16, which is down 21 cents from May 2007 and up 33 cents from June 2006.

  --  In Cook County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.59, which is up 9 cents compared to last month and 51 cents higher
      than last year's price-per-gallon.
  --  In DuPage County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.49 per gallon, which is a 9-cent increase from May and 55 cents
      higher than last year.
  --  In Kane County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.37 per gallon, which is 1 cent lower compared to last month and 41
      cents higher than May 2006's price.
  --  In Lake County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.42 per gallon, which is 5 cents higher than last month and up by 47
      cents compared to this time last year.
  --  In McHenry County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.37 per gallon, which is the same as May's average and 40 cents
      higher than June 2006's price.
  --  In Will County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.45 per gallon, which is 6 cents higher compared to last month and
      52 cents higher compared to last year.
  --  In Champaign County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline
      averages $3.11 per gallon, a decrease of 9 cents from May and an
      increase of 20 cents from last year.
  --  In McLean County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.07 per gallon, which is 14 cents lower than last month and 22 cents
      higher than last year.
  --  In Peoria County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.02 per gallon, which is a 27-cent decrease compared to last month
      and a 14-cent increase from June 2006.
  --  In Sangamon County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline
      averages $3.02 per gallon, which is 22 cents lower than last month and
      11 cents higher than last year.
  --  In Winnebago County, Ill., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline
      averages $3.21 per gallon, a decrease of 5 cents from May and an
      increase of 31 cents from June 2006.
  --  In Allen County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.07 per gallon, which is a decrease of 12 cents from last month and
      22 cents higher than June 2006's price.
  --  In Lake County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.17 per gallon, a 19-cent decrease from May's average and a 23-cent
      increase from a year ago.
  --  In Porter County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages
      $3.13 per gallon, which is 24 cents lower than last month and 20 cents
      higher than last year.
  --  In St. Joseph County, Ind., self-serve regular unleaded gasoline
      averages $3.14 per gallon, which is 4 cents lower compared to last
      month and 26 cents higher compared to last year.
