KARIYA (Japan) - DENSO Corporation will exhibit at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show, West Hall Exhibit 407, at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, starting Oct. 26. Koichi Fukaya, DENSO president and CEO, will talk about DENSO’s environment and safety technologies at a press briefing at the DENSO booth, on Oct. 25 at 11:30 a.m.

DENSO's exhibit will focus on new products and technologies related to safety and the environment. The exhibits in the environmental area include the 200MPa (2000 bar) diesel common rail system, planned to be commercialized in 2008; components for hybrid vehicles such as a power control unit (PCU) launched this year, and the world’s first electronic variable valve timing control system.

As a future technology for hybrid vehicle components, DENSO will introduce a power device made of silicon carbide (SiC), for PCUs. Compared to current power devices made of silicon (Si), SiC power devices are expected to help PCUs produce higher power with a smaller size, since SiC can withstand higher voltage and higher temperatures with lower power loss than is experienced with Si.

In the area of safety, in addition to a sensing system with a millimeter-wave radar and vision sensor, DENSO will showcase two future technologies on a cockpit demonstrator ? gaze detection technology that can detect the driver’s gaze and a new adaptive front lighting system (AFS).

Combined with other technologies, such as image recognition, communications, and image conversion, DENSO’s gaze detection technology will identify drivers’ recognition of obstacles, pedestrians, signals or traffic signs, and help the drivers recognize what they have not noticed.

The new AFS can predict curves in the road ahead using information from the car navigation system, and redirect headlamps to illuminate the road before the vehicle enters a curve, enhancing visibility earlier for the driver.
