The Maserati GranTurismo, which made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show last March, will go on sale at 1,790,000 yuan ($240,150) in China, Chinese auto website Cheshi.com reported today.

The model has a 4.2-liter V-8 that outputs 405 hp at a lofty 7100 rpm, and 339 lb-ft of torque at 4,750. The computer-shifted V-8 screamer will dispense of the 0-60 run in 5.2 seconds and accelerate to a top speed of 177 mph. And with nearly perfect weight distribution (49% front, 51% rear), handling should be nothing short of exemplary.

The coupe is over 192 inches long and can seat four people in reasonable comfort. The interior craftsmanship is typical Maserati gorgeous, and buyers can opt for made-to-order custom luggage by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Maserati is represented in China by a joint venture, Ferrari Maserati Cars International Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. The company was set up in August 2004 with headquarters in Shanghai, and oversees all market expansion and sales network development, as well as technical support and spare parts procurement.

At present, Maserati has built up a comprehensive sales and service network stretching across 10 major cities in China including Beijing, Dalian, Qingdao, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xiamen, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Kunming.

Maserati sold 42 vehicles in Chinese market in 2004, 64 in 2005 and 120 in 2006.
