Registration Underway for the 2008 North American International Auto Show Automotive Education Day

DETROIT, Nov. 20 -- Secondary education school officials may now register their students to participate in the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) Automotive Education Day. The fourth annual Automotive Education Day, presented by State Farm Insurance, will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Cobo Center in Detroit. School groups can register now at http://www.naias.com/aed2008.htm.

"The NAIAS is proud to provide this opportunity for high school students to get a rare glimpse inside the automotive industry," said Carl Galeana, NAIAS 2008 senior co-chairman. "We hope this experience with industry experts will be both exciting and educational, giving our visiting students a chance to learn more about the career opportunities of this industry."

The NAIAS 2008 Automotive Education Day is expected to draw thousands of students from throughout Southeast Michigan, surrounding states and Windsor, Ontario (Canada's border city). High school students (grades 9-12) will have an opportunity to visit the show floor, have one-on-one discussions with industry insiders and trade specialists gaining valuable insight on a variety of topics such as career opportunities, the latest technology, automotive design, engineering, environmental concerns, and more. In addition to backpack giveaways from State Farm, fun interactive games and prizes, students also will be provided a coupon for lunch in the Cobo Arena Food Court.

Automotive Education Day 2007 attracted 7,167 students from 111 schools in Michigan, Ohio, Iowa and Canada. Participating exhibitors from 2007 included the College for Creative Studies, General Motors, BMW, Toyota, DaimlerChrysler and State Farm Insurance. Participating post-secondary schools included Georgian College, Macomb Community College, University of Windsor and Northwood University. Tickets for Automotive Education Day are $10 (USD and CAN) per student and include lunch. One chaperone per 10 students is required. Online registration is available at http://www.naias.com/aed2008.htm. School groups should arrive promptly at 7:30 a.m. in Cobo Arena. Opening remarks will begin at 8:30 a.m.

NAIAS 2008 Official Dates

Press Preview will be held Sunday, Jan. 13 through Tuesday, Jan. 15. Industry Preview will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 16 and Thursday, Jan. 17. The annual black-tie Charity Preview will be held Friday evening, Jan. 18. Public Days will be held Saturday, Jan. 19 through Sunday, Jan. 27. Automotive Education Day will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 23. Racing Day will be held on Friday, Jan. 25.
