AUBURN - Matt Orth of Indianapolis, Indiana, was the first-place winner in the "Ticket to Ride" raffle drawing, held Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. in the showroom of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum. The grand prize winner this year received a cash prize split with the museum. Orth and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum will each receive over $16,000.

Mary Aaland of Fort Wayne, Indiana will receive $2,000 as the second-place winner and Al Showalter of Newcastle, Washington will receive $1,000 as the third-place winner.

Orth wasn't sure if the call he received from the museum confirming his prize was legitimate, "I was working on my snow blower that was not working, and I was a little aggravated. About that time the phone rang. I answered the phone and it was Jan Schippers calling from the museum to tell me that I had won first prize in the raffle. At first I thought it might be one of those phone scams. Her voice was very polite and sincere, but I had only won maybe five dollars my whole life, and that wasn't even enough to tell my wife about!" said Orth. "My wife checked the mail a few days later and brought me the paperwork that the museum had sent me, and it really hit me then, that I had won this money and it wasn't a scam!" said Orth. He has been visiting the museum since 1975 when he first brought his wife and children.

All museum trustees and staff members, except executive director Laura Brinkman, executive vice president Matt Short and business manager Jan Schippers, were eligible, along with the public, to enter the raffle. All proceeds from the raffle benefit the not-for-profit Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum.
