January 2008 U.S. New Vehicle Facts and Figures
Feb 1, 2008; David Bailey writing for Reuters reported U.S. January auto sales fell 4.4 percent from a year earlier, according to data from auto manufacturers on Friday. The following are highlights from the largest carmakers in the U.S. market.
Overall Automotive Industry
* Total light vehicle sales -- 1.04 million units.
General Motors Corp
* Light vehicle sales rose 2.6 percent (250,926 units)
* Inventories at month-end: just over 904,000 units
* Cars/trucks: Cars up 0.2 percent/light trucks up 4.3 percent
* Retail sales: Retail rose 11.2 percent
* Market share: 23.9 percent
* Key vehicles: Chevrolet Impala down 30.6 percent, Chevrolet Malibu up 57.9 percent, Chevrolet Silverado down 5.9 percent, Chevrolet Tahoe down 12.1 percent, GMC Sierra up 0.4 percent.
* Incentives: average $3,402 per vehicle, up from $2,454 a year earlier.
Toyota Motor Corp
* Vehicle sales down 2.3 percent (171,849 units)
* Market share: 16.5 percent
* Cars/trucks: Cars down 5.7 percent/trucks up 1.7 percent
* Key vehicles: Tundra up 91 percent, Camry up 0.4 percent, Prius up 37.1 percent, Corolla down 18.7 percent
* Incentives: averaged $1,019 per vehicle, up from $763 a year earlier.
Ford Motor Co
* Vehicle sales down 4.1 percent (159,914 units)
* Inventories at month-end were 576,000 units, down from 590,000 units year earlier
* Retail/fleet mix: Retail sales of Ford, Lincoln, Mercury down 9 percent/fleet sales up 9 percent
* Cars/trucks: Cars down 10.3 percent/trucks down 1 percent
* Market share: 14.2 percent
* Key vehicles: F-Series down 8.4 percent, Explorer down 18.7 percent, Expedition down 19.2 percent, Focus up 44.4 percent, Fusion down 12.8 percent.
* Incentives: averaged $3,096 per vehicle, down from $3,300 a year earlier.
Chrysler LLC
* Car and light truck sales down 12 percent year over year (137,392 units)
* Cars/trucks: Cars up 25 percent/trucks down 24 percent
* Market share: 13.2 percent
* Inventories at month-end were 413,874 units, or a 75-day supply, down 15 percent from year ago.
* Key vehicles: Jeep Wrangler down 31 percent, Dodge Ram pickup down 18 percent, Dodge Caliber up 26 percent.
* Incentives: average $3,598 per vehicle, down from $3,855 a year earlier.
Honda Motor Co
* Car and light truck sales down 2.3 percent year-over-year (98,511 units)
* Market share: 9.5 percent
* Cars/trucks: Cars up 3.6 percent/trucks down 8.9 percent
* Key vehicles: Accord down 6.8 percent, Civic up 14.2 percent, CR-V up 11.3 percent.
* Incentives: averaged $989 per vehicle, up from $947 a year earlier.
Nissan Motor Co Ltd
* Car and light truck sales down 7.3 percent year over year (76,605 units)
* Market share: 7.4 percent
* Cars/trucks: Cars down 6.9 percent/trucks down 7.9 percent
* Key vehicles: Altima down 11.3 percent, Versa up 24.7 percent, Sentra down 9 percent, Titan down 29.4 percent.
