CHICAGO - February 7, 2008: Volkswagen unveiled its new minivan yesterday, the Routan, at the Chicago Auto Show just weeks after the premiere of the new Passat CC at the NAIAS 2008. The Routan is a seven-seater that is more than five meters in length. The vehicle comes standard with a 3.8L V6, offering 197 hp and 230 lb. ft. of torque, when combined with the standard six-speed automatic transmission. A 4.0L V6 will be available, rated at 253 hp and 263 lb. ft. of torque.

The minivan will be produced in the Volkswagen facility in Windsor, Ontario. The automaker is hoping to increase its volume in North America with models like the Passat CC and the new Routan, both of which are tailored to the U.S. market's requirements.
