The Chrysler Foundation to Present $250,000 Check to the
Detroit Zoological Society to Help Refurbish the Detroit Zoo's Tauber
Family Railroad
Event to announce The Chrysler Foundation's $250,000 check
presentation to the Detroit Zoological Society to help refurbish
the Detroit Zoo's Tauber Family Railroad. In recognition of the
donation, the zoo will unveil the new name of the main train
station as the Chrysler Main Station.
Chrysler LLC has a long history with the Detroit Zoo and its
locomotive trains. Walter P. Chrysler began his career working in
the railroad business where his passion for engines developed. In
1949, Chrysler Corporation designed, built and donated the first
of the diesel-powered trains, named the Walter P. Chrysler, along
with two more locomotives in 1950 and 1951, followed by recurring
Company donations to upgrade and maintain these operations.
