More Light for Safer Manoeuvring

LIPPSTADT – September 3, 2008: The lighting specialist Hella has now included two new reversing spotlights for commercial vehicles, trailers and buses in its range. The powerful Ultra Beam with H3 halogen bulb is now available with a clear-glass cover lens. It is also suitable for hazardous-goods transporters (in accordance with GGVS/ADR). Also launched with a clear lens is the Eco 21. The P21W bulb emits its light via a facetted free-form reflector. The housing has an impact edge to protect the plastic cover lens from damage when manoeuvring. With the two new models, Hella is now implementing the general trend of non-patterned light technology in the case of reversing spotlights as well. Hella's range also includes the Comet 450, Comet 550 and Ultra Beam models, which each have a patterned lens.

Since July 2006, the legislature has permitted the mounting of a maximum of four additional, type-approved reversing spotlights on commercial vehicles, buses or trailers over six metres long. The use of auxiliary spotlights, fog lights or worklights for illuminating the rear area is not allowed. In terms of external appearance only, these reversing spotlights are certainly very similar to the fog lights or worklights of the same name. However, they have completely different light distribution and are specially type-approved. They can be identified by the type-approval symbol "00AR", the type-approval number and the E1 symbol in a circle. The new legislation allows a maximum of four reversing spotlights per vehicle, two at the rear and one each per vehicle side. The results in optimum light when manoeuvring in reverse. When fitting, the mounting height of at least 250 millimetres above the ground must be observed. The upper mounting height is a maximum of 1,200 millimetres. The reversing spotlights from Hella are available from well-stocked automotive parts retailers.
