Benz Hybrids May Come To China In Late '09

Shanghai, January 24 (Gasgoo.com) In 2009, Mercedes-Benz will launch its first hybrid model S400 BlueHYBRID, a gasoline-electric hybrid based on the S-Class sedan, and a more advanced diesel-electric hybrid version of the M-Class SUV, said cheshi.com today. The two Mercedes-Benz hybrid models may be introduced to China later this year.

In 2007 Mercedes-Benz first previewed the S400 hybrid vehicle with its ML450 Hybrid concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Back then, Mercedes showcased the car with a gasoline-electric hybrid power-train. There is a high chance that both a gasoline and diesel version of the hybrid SUV will be launched.

The new S400 BlueHYBRID is scheduled for launch in Europe this June, with China to follow in August and the U.S. by September. The diesel-electric version of the M-Class SUV should follow shortly after.

The M-Class hybrid will go on sale in the second half of this year. The vehicle will feature the same dual-mode hybrid system found in the S400 BlueHYBRID but in the SUV it will be mated with a 3.2L low-emission Bluetec turbo-diesel engine and AWD system. It will be also introduced to the Chinese market in late 2009.

As the first SUV model in the high-end auto market, the Mercedes-Benz M-Class is the trendsetter among today's SUVs. Its distinctive status is down to its characteristic dynamic, stylish design, a mix of compelling performance both on and off-road, the ride comfort and ease of sedan operation.
