Will Saturn Drive Its Own Future?

DETROIT - February 20, 2009: As part of the restructuring plan submitted this week is a proposal that Saturn become a separate and independent company. The idea would presumably make it possible for Saturn to define its own future.

"People are attracted to Saturn because of the great customer experience that we provide, and we've complemented over the years that great customer experience with an award winning product portfolio," explains Jill Lajdziak, Saturn's General Manager. "Our plan creates a unique opportunity for the brand to return to its roots and reinvent the industry once again."

Saturn Distribution Corporation, a subsidiary of GM, has a unique structure and holds the franchise agreements with Saturn retailers. This set up facilitates the option of spinning off the brand. Saturn retailer Tom Zimbrick believes this is a realistic option; "A spin-off of an independent Saturn would give the brand a new chance to build on its tradition of innovation and customer service. Once again, we'd be a different kind of company."

In the meantime, 2009 Saturn models are available at dealers and Saturn will continue its popular test drive at home program.
