Development

WHO: Robert Gramlich, Policy Director, AWEA

Donald Furman, Senior VP, Business, Iberdrola Renewables,
and President-elect, AWEA

Transmission is the largest single barrier to significant wind energy
expansion and the achievement of a national renewable electricity
standard (RES). As Congress debates whether to enact a national RES,
upgrading the nation's outdated transmission system is emerging as
another key component of our energy future.

Gramlich and Furman will explain why the U.S. needs a high-voltage,
interstate green power superhighway to deliver clean, renewable
electricity to the consumers who need it. A successful RES will require
this critical infrastructure upgrade, which will also make more
efficient use of our existing transmission capacity, reduce the logjam
in interconnection queues, and expand transmission capacity.

A national, high-capacity transmission network, combined with a national
RES could bring tremendous economic benefits to Kansas, in the form of
jobs, increased manufacturing investment, and clean, affordable wind
energy as a new export product for the state.
