LUTON, UNITED KINGDOM – March 20, 2009: Last Friday the Safer Luton Partnership launched its 19th annual Safety Squad, an initiative that gives local school children an opportunity to learn about personal safety and crisis management in simulated real life situations.

Agencies involved include Bedfordshire Police, Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service, Luton Borough Council, St John’s Ambulance, Home Safety and the Luton Multi-Agency Domestic Abuse Forum.

The launch was held at General Motors Manufacturing (GMM) Luton and attended by a number of key local supporters including Margaret Moran MP (Luton South) and Deputy Mayor of Luton, Councillor Khitija Malik.

Over the next two weeks approximately 600 Luton school children will participate in the interactive experience provided by the Safety Squad which is using the GM training and development centre at the Luton plant as a venue.

Helen Lubin MBE said: “We are very proud to be in our 19th year of Safety Squad – the project provides an invaluable learning experience to the school children of Luton.” This was echoed by the chairman Margaret Lathwell.

Margaret Moran MP said: “Safety Squad is a tremendous example of multiple local agencies working together for the good of young people in the Luton area.”
