ALPHARETTA, Ga., May 4, 2009; Larry S. Daniel, with more than three decades of automotive experience - including a solid retail background - today became senior vice president for sales and marketing of Global Vehicles U.S.A., the distributor for Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra which is in the process of launching its first vehicles in the United States.

According to Global Vehicles CEO John Perez, the addition of retail experience with his comprehensive automotive corporate roles makes Daniel the right person for this position.

"Larry has that 'perfect,' but often tough-to-find, background," Perez said. "He got his start in this business selling cars to the public, working in all of a dealership's sales areas. There he learned the basics on a grassroots level. He then worked in the corporate, wholesale environment, learning the other half of the business.

"Knowing how dealers sell cars and what customers expect from the dealer enables Larry to establish corporate sales and marketing policies and strategies better focused on solid results. To him, selling cars and trucks is not just theory."

Working from Global Vehicles' headquarters in Alpharetta, Daniel will oversee a field sales organization servicing more than 330 dealers and coordinate the work of a newly reconstituted marketing operation.

Daniel, 56, comes to Global Vehicles from General Motors where his last position was regional marketing manager for the Buick, Pontiac and GMC divisions, a role in which he managed a $30 million media and promotion budget, as well as marketing strategy and execution for the Southeast section of the country.

Prior to that post, Daniel filled regional director jobs for Saab (as a part of GM) with overall management of sales, service, parts and marketing. He joined GM when the company acquired Saab Cars USA, Inc., for which he had been a regional operations manager, regional sales manager, district manager and regional director. These varied posts took him from Oregon to the Southeast.

"The GM jobs greatly added to Larry's skill set, preparing him to oversee our sales organization and our marketing efforts," said Perez.

Beginning in late 2009, Global Vehicles will market two- and four-door clean-diesel-powered pickup trucks, in both two-wheel and four-wheel-drive versions. These trucks are compact in size with the payload and towing capacity of full-size pickups, but the fuel economy of a small automobile. A diesel-powered SUV, with similar characteristics, will follow about a year after the pickup's launch.

Daniel lives in Alpharetta along with his wife Kimberly and his children Lindsay and Brett.
