MOUNT WAVERLEY, AUSTRALIA – June 3, 2009: Mazda3 continued to make in-roads with Australian new car buyers last month: The sleek, sporty and compact small car celebrated its best May ever as the country’s highest-selling small car and number two passenger car overall.

According to VFACTS figures released today Mazda sold 3,038 Mazda3s in May, topping the small car sales tally for the third time this year with a 20.3 percent share in the sub $40k Small car segment.

Mazda3 sales are up 17.7 percent on the same month last year and after just one full month on sale New Generation Mazda3 is narrowing the gap to the country’s top-selling car.

Overall Mazda is the fourth best-selling brand in Australia and remains the country’s favourite full-line import brand. Year-to-date Mazda has sold 30,197 new cars and has an 8.6 percent share in the new car market.

Mazda Australia managing director Doug Dickson said: “New Generation Mazda3 is showing strong signs that it will continue the success of its perennially popular predecessor. We believe the secret to this success is offering the right product for the times.

“New Generation Mazda3 combines state-of-the art safety features, class-leading handling and an outstanding list of standard equipment, including Satellite Navigation and Bluetooth, all in a dynamic and good-looking package.”
