BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA – June 6, 2009: International automotive engineering society, FISITA, will host its first Educators Seminar, Developing the links between Industry and Higher Education Institutions in Automotive Engineering, on Monday 29 June 2009, at the 12th European Automotive Engineering Congress (EAEC) in Bratislava, Slovakia.

The seminar will tackle important questions in higher education and cover the latest trends and developments from both education and industry perspectives. It will be a chance for educators and industry employers to make connections and discuss the common challenges and opportunities in automotive engineering and technology education. It will also highlight cases of good practice identified around Europe, and provide opportunities for networking. The audience is expected to include academics, researchers, human resources specialists, and vocational or tertiary educators.

FISITA Vice President for Education, Prof. Matti Juhala, said: "The rapid development of the technological world has created the need for a greater shared understanding between educators and their ‘consumers’ in the automotive industry. With industry leaders predicting a ‘virtual reinvention of the automobile’ over the coming decades, universities need to prepare their students for careers in tomorrow's automotive business, where diverse factors such as alternative energy and advanced electronics are changing the way the industry uses engineering talent".

Jan Figel, EC Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth, and invited speaker to the seminar, commented: “Europe has been too weak for too long in bringing the worlds of university academia and business enterprise together, to achieve successful commercial exploitation of academic excellence. More intense, structured collaboration between our universities and businesses is vital if we are to face the challenges of globalisation effectively”.

The EAEC Congress will take place from 29 June – 1 July in Bratislava, Slovakia, and is hosted by the Slovak Society of Automotive Engineers (SAITS).

Attendance at the seminar is free to delegates attending the EAEC 2009 congress.
