LONDON – July 29, 2009: A strong euro and a weak pound will lead to an increase in UK tourism. That’s the call from leading travel operators as more Brits decide to holiday at home.

In response to the news, LTI Vehicles is calling drivers of its world famous London Taxi to maximise their earnings by taking full advantage of the capital’s varied event calendar.

From Edinburgh’s Comedy Festival to the Ashes, Bristol’s International Balloon Festival to racing at Chepstow, there are a range of exciting events that are expected to bring an influx of visitors to Britain. All of which will be boosted by a scorching hot summer and the start of the school holidays.

“It’s going to be a strong summer for the British domestic tourism market,” said Ian Bradley, a spokesperson for the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO). “British tourists will begin to appreciate the attributes of their own country.”

Elliot Frisby, a spokesperson for VisitBritain, commented that the UK also remains a popular destination for overseas visitors. He said: “According to official figures, between February and April, the number of visits from overseas tourists increased by 3% compared to the previous three months. This trend is set to continue as the UK’s summer events will attract even more visitors to the country”

Rob Laidler, Sales Director at LTI Vehicles, said: "There are a fantastic range of events taking place throughout the summer that show Britain is the place to holiday in 2009. This is good news for the trade especially during these challenging times.”
