ARLINGTON, Va., Aug. 6, 2009; The statement below from Michael J. Stanton, President and CEO of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers (AIAM), was released following the U.S. Senate's passage of H.R. 3435, a bill making supplemental appropriations available for fiscal year 2009 for the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save (CARS) Program.

"AIAM welcomes today's action by the Senate which, along with the House of Representatives, supported additional funding for the 'Cash for Clunkers' (CARS) program. We now look forward to the President signing the legislation into law. Consumer response to the CARS program has been extremely encouraging and we hope these increased sales will provide the jump-start necessary to re-energize the auto industry in the United States and increase the overall fuel economy of the domestic fleet. AIAM and its member companies appreciate the quick action taken by Congress despite a full docket of legislative business."
