TULLAMARINE, AUSTRALIA – The Honda Civic and Honda Accord (2003-07) have been named on AutoWeek magazine’s 10 Great and Safe Rides for Teens list, released in the US.

The list was curated by the editors of the Detroit based automotive lifestyle publication, and included as part of the magazine’s renewed focus on teen driving.

Teen driver safety is an important issue in the United States, with figures from the American Automobile Association (AAA), showing that teens are involved in 14 percent of all fatal auto accidents and 20 percent of all accidents, despite making up just seven percent of total drivers.

The figures are similarly confronting in Australia, where almost 30 per cent of road deaths are attributed to drivers under the age of 25 (Road Deaths Australia, 2008). In Victoria alone, young drivers make over a quarter of driver deaths, with nearly one-third of all road deaths resulting from crashes involving young drivers (Vic Roads, 2008).

In Australia, Honda has been involved in road safety education since 1963, providing driver education services across Australia through its H.A.R.T (Honda Australia Roadcraft Training) operations.
