Tiny Iowa town has the chargers, awaiting drivers

--The tiny Iowa town of Elk Horn will have plenty of electric charging stations and no wait — if you can get there. The town, more than 1,500 miles from the electric car mecca of California and hundreds of miles from the nearest charging station, has four of the devices ready to power up any electric vehicles that venture through western Iowa.

--Nissan and SDG&E unveiled the Leaf electric car. The five-seat hatchback, expected to go on sale in December 2010, is designed to go 100 miles between charges. Batteries sold separately. Not sold, actually, but leased. Drivers will pay for them in part with the money they save by not having to buy gasoline.

BC's power grid could handle 2.5 million electric cars, study suggests

--A study suggests B.C.'s power grid has the capacity to charge almost 2.5 million electric vehicles, almost equal to the number of vehicles on the province's roads now. The study by the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions finds British Columbia has enough under-utilized generation capacity to support a large electric-vehicle fleet even in the winter when power demands are heavy.
