Audi S5 Cabriolet Lands in Australia

ZETLAND, AUSTRALIA – December 15, 2009: Audi’s new S5 Cabriolet has been launched in Australia.

The newest member of the company’s sporty ‘S’ family adds a superb ‘top down’ dimension to the S model range. The S5 Cabriolet is now the sportiest drop top in the Audi line-up and combines a potent combination of wind in your hair motoring, with a highly emotional sportscar driving experience.

Powered by a supercharged, three-litre V6 engine, the S5 Cabriolet boasts a power peak of 245 kW, and a generous torque figure of 440Nm between 2,900 and 5,300 rpm.

The open-top four-seater sprints from zero to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds and accelerates up to a governed top speed of 250 km/h.

The six-cylinder engine unit, with a displacement of 2,995cc exemplifies the Audi philosophy of intelligent efficiency – in other words boost replaces displacement. The power thrust, the spontaneous response that is the result of short fuel paths and the aggressive engine sound make for a thrilling driving experience.

Proving the Audi combination of supercharging with direct injection is a viable one, a combined fuel consumption of just 9.7 litres/100km is achieved.

Dynamism: drivetrain and suspension
The letter “S” stands for Sport – for dynamics, performance and power, but also for amazing efficiency. The new Audi S5 Cabriolet is no exception to this Audi philosophy.

The Audi S5 Cabriolet’s engine is a newly developed, supercharged, three-litre V6. A supercharger in the space between the two banks of cylinders pressurizes the direct-injection 3.0 TFSI to up to 0.8 bar. Two downstream intercoolers reduce the temperature of the compressed intake air. Power peaks at 245 kW, while torque between 2,900 and 5,300 rpm remains constant at a generous 440 Nm.

The Audi S5 Cabriolet comes standard with servotronic speed sensitive steering, seven-speed S tronic transmission and quattro drivetrain.

The 18-inch cast aluminium wheels are shod with 245/40 tyres. The black brake callipers are emblazoned with S5 emblems and a specially-tuned S sports suspension is standard fir for this sporty top model.

Sporty, stylish design
A number of design features contribute to the distinctively sporty styling, including modifications at the lower front and back panels, at the front spoiler and the diffuser, at the single-frame grille, at the air intakes, at the sill trims and at the four tailpipes.

The exterior mirrors are mounted in shimmering aluminium-looking housings. The Sprint Blue, pearl effect paint finish is exclusive to the S5 Cabriolet and emphasises its athletic character.

A high level of equipment
Inside, electrically adjustable sport seats covered in Alcantara leather and brushed aluminium inlays underscore the high-quality dynamic style of the high-end model. The scales of the instruments are a subtle grey, the pointers are illuminated white. The colour driver information system is standard, along with the brand’s intuitive MMI Navigation Plus system. Aluminium-look shift paddles and a centre armrest round out the program of distinctive features. The S5 logo adorns the door sill trims, the key, the leather multifunction sport steering wheel and the instruments.

Extra-firm S sport seats covered in Silk Nappa or the climate-controlled comfort seats are available as options from Audi. The seat coverings are available in black, brown and three two-colour combinations.

The headlining is available in star silver and black. Inlays are available in carbon, fine grain birch wood and stainless steel mesh. The latter comprises countless steel fibres and feels slightly rough – an unusual haptic experience.

MMI Navigation Plus, Xenon Plus headlights, LED daytime driving lights, Advanced key access, electric, heated front seats, cruise control, Audi Parking System Plus and an acoustic soft-top are all standard equipment.

The S5 Cabriolet is available now for customer delivery and is priced from $138,100 (manufacturer list price includes GST & LCT where applicable).
