Fuel Economy, Lower Emissions or Performance? BorgWarner's Advanced Technologies Deliver All Three

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan. 28 -- BorgWarner supplies a variety of advanced engine technologies -- such as turbochargers, timing systems, emission control devices, glow plugs and control modules, and pressure sensor glow plugs (PSGs) -- for five of Ward's "10 Best Engines 2010." The awards program is the only event recognizing engine excellence in North America. BorgWarner provides components and systems for these winning engines:

  -- 2.0L TFSI turbocharged DOHC I-4 (Audi A4)
  -- 3.0L DOHC I-6 Turbodiesel (BMW 335d)
-- 2.5L DOHC I-4 Hybrid (Ford Fusion Hybrid)
  -- 2.4L Ecotec DOHC I-4 (Chevrolet Equinox)
-- 2.0L SOHC I-4 Turbodiesel (Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen TDI)

"Consumers are making fuel economy and lower emissions a top priority, but are not willing to compromise on performance. BorgWarner is helping drive the trend toward cleaner downsized engines with advanced technologies that deliver economical, environmentally friendly, powerful performance," said Tim Manganello, BorgWarner Chairman and CEO. "We are proud to contribute to the success of these notable engines. Congratulations to our winning customers - Audi, BMW, Ford, Chevrolet and Volkswagen."

Engineered to boost performance, reduce emissions and improve fuel economy, these engines feature a variety of BorgWarner technologies. For example, BorgWarner's R2SŪ regulated two-stage turbocharging system achieves high torque at low engine speeds and maximum output at high engine speeds, enabling low-fuel-consumption, efficient, downsized engines to perform with the dynamic response and power of larger engines. Using ground-breaking coatings designed to withstand extreme temperatures and damaging residues, BorgWarner's variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbochargers provide substantial torque while reducing NOx emissions by working in combination with low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). BorgWarner engine timing systems deliver quiet performance, timing precision and durability, while its efficient emission control devices help reduce start-up and operative emissions.

Presented by Ward's Auto World at the North American International Auto Show, the 10 Best Engines program has built a reputation as the auto industry's annual barometer of powertrain expertise. Nominations for the award are limited to engines that are available in regular-production, U.S. models on sale no later than the first quarter of 2010 with a base price of no more than $54,000.
