Huh? International Manufacturers Make Cars in the U.S and U.S Manufacturers Make Cars Other Places And Import Them To America? - Huh? Again

ARLINGTON, VA - June 30, 2010: Companies represented by the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers (AIAM) garnered half of the top ten spots in this year's annual ranking of "Most American" vehicles. The listing rates vehicles built and bought in the U.S. based on popularity, sourcing of parts, and a variety of other factors.

It's no surprise that our members earned the top spots on this index. International automakers produced nearly 40 percent of the vehicles sold in America last year and more than half of those were built in the U.S.," said Michael J. Stanton, President and CEO of AIAM. "Our members see tremendous value in building vehicles in America as it creates jobs, strengthens local communities, and improves the competitiveness of the entire U.S. auto industry."

Outranking the Detroit Three car makers for the second year in a row, the Toyota Camry, manufactured in Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind., earned first-place. The Honda Accord, built at the company's Marysville, Ohio and Lincoln, Ala. auto plants, came in at No. 2. The Honda Odyssey, Toyota Tundra and Toyota Sienna also made the top ten list.

"Our members' top rankings are the result of the investments by international automakers over the past 25 years and are another example of the new reality of the U.S. auto industry," said Stanton.

International auto manufacturers have invested more than $44 billion in the U.S. and directly employ more than 100,000 Americans with a payroll of approximately $8 billion. AIAM member companies have steadily increased their investment in the U.S. over the past 50 years and now have more than 300 manufacturing, R&D, engineering and design facilities.
