2011 Ford Explorer comes to British Columbia for the First Time - VIDEO ENHANCED

VANCOUVER, BC - August 11, 2010: Following the 2011 Ford Explorer unveiling in Toronto, the all-new Explorer is making its way to Vancouver for a one-day stop. On Thursday, August 12 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., the Explorer will be on display at Library Square. It will be filled with non-perishable items to be donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society, of which the Society is currently in great need of. People are also invited to bring down their non-perishable food items to be donated to the Food Bank.

This will be the first-time that Vancouverites will be given an up close and personal tour of the all-new vehicle.

The Explorer was first launched online through Facebook - a first for Ford and one of only a few vehicles to have ever launched through social media. This unique idea was designed to correspond with Ford's emphasis on this model of the Explorer being completely reinvented. It also meshes well with the Explorer's high tech features which include MyFord Touch driver connect technology and SYNC integrated communications and entertainment system to help keep a driver's eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. In keeping with this online theme, Thursday's event at Library Square will also give passerby the opportunity to enter for a chance to win a 2011 Ford Explorer - computers will be onsite to access www.explorerreinvented.ca, where the contest page is set up.

The all-new Explorer is expected to deliver more than 30 per cent better fuel economy and can tow up to 5,000 lbs. It features three rows of seating, providing room for seven people and their gear. The Explorer also includes a variety of advanced safety technologies for Ford - it is the first vehicle in the world to feature inflatable rear seatbelts.

Crash-avoidance innovations such as Curve Control will also be introduced on the 2011 Explorer. Curve Control is designed to help drivers maintain control of their vehicle when taking a curve too quickly. The technology senses when a driver is taking a curve too quickly and rapidly reduces engine torque and can apply four-wheel braking, slowing the vehicle by up to 16 km/h in about one second. This system will come standard on the all-new Explorer.
