MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA – October 14, 2010: Audi’s iconic TT Coupe and Roadster range has been further enhanced with a range of technical, design and equipment upgrades that ensure Audi’s thoroughbred sports car continues to stand above its competitors.

Recognised as a design breakthrough in its first generation, the enhanced second-generation of the Audi TT Coupe and Roadster presents an even more tempting sports car opportunity for design and performance aficionados alike.

Drivetrain
The most obvious enhancement is the introduction of a new 2.0 TFSI engine.

Joining the 1.8 TFSI and 2.0 TDI, the new 2.0 TFSI now develops 155 kW (an increase of 8 Kw) and boasts a 70 Nm increase in torque to a muscular 350 Nm between 1,600 and 4,200 rpm.

Winner of the coveted ‘International Engine of the Year’ for the sixth year in a row in its category, the turbocharged 2.0 TFSI engine harnesses its power and torque to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds in Coupe form, when combined with a manual transmission. Even more remarkable is that it does this while using even less fuel, with a combined-cycle consumption figure of just 7.1 litres per 100km.

The new 2.0 TFSI is also offered with Audi’s six-speed S tronic transmission and quattro permanent all-wheel drive, providing it with the ability to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.6 seconds, yet still only consume 7.2L/100km (7.4 litres per 100km for the Roadster).

These improvements in both power and efficiency for the 2.0 TFSI engine are in large part thanks to Audi’s valvelift system AVS which adjusts the lift of the exhaust valves in two stages. In addition, all TT Coupe and Roadster engines employ a recuperation system that recovers energy during braking and coasting phases, further boosting efficiency.

In addition to the new 2.0 TFSI, the TT engine line-up also boasts two other four-cylinder engines. The second petrol engine is the 1.8 TFSI, which drives the front wheels and is available with a six-speed manual transmission, which delivers 118 kW and 250 Nm – ensuring a 0 to 100 km/h dash of 7.2 seconds whilst consuming only 6.4 litres of fuel per 100km.

If diesel is the choice, the 2.0 TDI sets new standards when it comes to efficiency at just 5.3 litres per 100km. But performance hasn’t been compromised, with 125 kW and 350 Nm being channelled through a six-speed manual transmission and quattro all-wheel-drive.

The six-speed manual transmission is offered on both the TT Coupe 1.8 TFSI and the 2.0 TDI. For the TT Coupe 2.0 TFSI, Audi also offers the new six-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission. This transmission switches between its six gears extremely quickly with no interruption to the supply of power. This high-tech transmission offers the driver both an automatic and manual shifting mode. The S tronic transmission is offered as standard on the TT Roadster.

The quattro permanent all-wheel drive system is also available with the 2.0 TFSI, and comes standard with the 2.0 TDI and on the TT Roadster. Its hydraulic multi-plate clutch is electronically controlled and during normal driving conditions it sends most of the engine’s power to the front wheels to maximise efficiency, but can quickly transfer up to 100 percent of power to the rear wheels if necessary.

Exterior and Interior Design
The TT Coupe and the TT Roadster’s trend-setting styling is now even more expressive. There are powerful new front bumper frames, larger air inlets, new fog lights are set in chrome rings and the lattice of the single-frame grille is now finished in high-gloss black. The optional xenon plus headlights have also been redesigned and there are twelve white light-emitting diodes arranged in a straight line at the lower edge of the headlights which serve as the daytime running lights.

The TT 2.0 TFSI models now also feature dual-branch tailpipes, new exterior colours and a 17-inch 5-Spoke V design alloy wheel. The 1.8 TFSI also gains new 17”-7-Y-Spoke design alloy wheels.

The interior of the TT, renowned for innovative design and world-class fit and finish, has also received careful attention. Interior accents are provided by new aluminium-look applications and rings, with frames and strips finished in high-gloss black. An aluminium strip above the glove-box is finished in brushed grey and the leather seat covers are specially treated to reduce thermal heating by as much as 20 degrees Celsius when the TT is parked in the sun. There are also thee new interior colours to choose from.

Weight Reduction
A key factor for the groundbreaking efficiency and excellent driving dynamics of the TT is the advanced construction of body, which uses a hybrid version of the Audi Space Frame technology ASF. Lightweight aluminium is used from the front of the car rearwards to the B-pillar, with steel panels used from the B-pillar back. This mix makes it possible to finely balance weight distribution and keep the overall weight extremely low.

The body of the Coupé weighs only 206 kilograms, with 140 kilograms of aluminium and 66 kilograms of steel. The TT 1.8 TFSI weighs a mere 1,240 kg, 100 kilograms less than its key competitors.

The classic cloth roof of the TT Roadster is the perfect complement to Audi’s lightweight construction principles. It contributes to a low centre of gravity, fits perfectly into the design concept and takes up little space when open. An electrohydraulic motor opens the fully-automatic cloth-top in just 12 seconds and can do so even while driving at speeds of up to 50 km/h

Greater driver information to aid efficiency
All versions of the TT Coupe and TT Roadster come with a wide array of standard equipment. Amongst the highlights is an onboard computer with efficiency program which presents all consumption-relevant data on the central display, and gives tips for efficient driving including the gear-change indicator indicating the optimum gear.

The Audi TTS Coupe and Roadster
Both the TTS Coupe and Roadster, with their 2.0 TFSI 200 kW / 350 Nm engine, quattro permanent all-wheel drive and S tronic transmissions, have also benefitted from the TT range enhancements.

In addition to the TT exterior design refinements the TTS models gain new aluminium-look front fog light struts, new honeycomb-look front air inlets, the introduction of five new exterior colours and a new interior colour option.

“The revision and enhancements to our iconic TT range clearly demonstrate that progression is a constant at Audi.“ Said Audi Australia managing director Uwe Hagen:

“We are continuously working on ways to improve both the efficiency and the driving experience of our entire range. This is highlighted perfectly with the TT, a signature car for Audi.“

“Of course, we also spare no effort in continuing to refine our designs to ensure that they remain another clear point of leadership for our brand. In this way we ensure that whilst there may be imitators, authentic progressive performance will always carry the four rings.”

Both the TT Coupe and Roadster, and the TTS models are available from Audi’s nationwide dealer network as of now.
